async.inc is project management for teams that would rather write things down than sit in a meeting about them. It is built on one idea: work should end.
Every other tool hands you an infinite pile. A document from 2023 looks exactly like one written this morning, nothing is ever settled, and the real decisions happen in a call nobody wrote down. Here a doc resolves: the decision is written across the top of it, everything underneath is how you got there, and it stays findable. A card is moving or it is blocked, and blocked has to say who you are waiting on.
Your clients work in here too, free, without an account. You send them a link and they read and reply. That is the whole of it.
Plain text, system fonts, square corners, blue underlined links. Nothing is loading and nothing is animating, because there is nothing to load — the pages are about 30 kilobytes and they arrive finished. Reading and replying work with JavaScript switched off, which is what makes a link you send a client work on whatever browser their IT department gave them.
It is a stated position rather than an unfinished state. Every design decision is a chance to look designed; we try to make as few as possible.
